PARISH LIFE
Bookmark Brigade Cross-stitched bookmarks are handmade for those celebrating marriage, first communion and other sacraments in the Parish. If you have nimble fingers and would like to get together with others for some stitching and conversion, please contact the Parish Office.
Cabrini Ministry Cabrini Ministry is a regional program that equips lay persons to provide Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing a variety of needs. These needs include the hospitalized, the terminally ill, those in grief, those in crisis, the elderly, and anyone in need of support. If you are interested in becoming a minister or would like to speak with one, contact Paula.
Coffee & Donuts After all Masses on most Sundays, a Coffee and Donuts hour is offered in the School Hall. This gives parishioners an opportunity to get to know each other and introduce themselves to new faces in our community. By having various other ministries from our parish “host” this event, Coffee & Donuts also provides an opportunity for parishioners to get to know a little bit about different activities going on at Holy Rosary. Please stop by the School Hall after Mass on Sundays and enjoy the fellowship. If you’re interested in helping out with this ministry, please contact Patrick.
Funeral Receptions If you would like to help with this rewarding ministry, please contact Jillian.
Golf
Tournament The Golf Tournament committee plans, runs, and participates in the annual Holy Rosary Golf Tournament to benefit the Father Mallahan School Endowment Fund. The tournament is played at the West Seattle Golf Club and features generous business sponsors from our community. The 8th Grade Class from Holy Rosary School provides caddies to raise money for their annual retreat. Meetings are held once a month from January until the tournament in the Fall. If you are interested in joining the team please contact Chris.
Greeters Greeters carry the responsibility for creating a welcoming atmosphere at the entrances of the church. Offering a smile and a word of welcome can have a profound impact on people as they arrive, especially if they are visitors to Holy Rosary. Our worship will only be truly hospitable when everyone who gathers for liturgy reaches out to those around them with the love of Christ. If you are a people person, and if you are a gracious host, please consider becoming a greeter. Greeters are present for one mass each weekend. The greeters invite everyone who gathers for mass to enter the church with the joy of the Lord. Sometimes, they are asked to help with other special ceremonies at mass that involve great celebrations! Please contact Patrick if you would like to celebrate this special ministry of welcoming!
League of
the Sacred Heart Prayer and Eucharistic Liturgy are the primary aims of the League. On the First Fridays of the months, the members of the League, as a group, attend Mass and on those afternoons, they gather in the Convent dining room for a short meeting and prayer. Many times our pastor or another guest speaker addresses the group. Membership is open to everyone. Please contact the Parish Office for further information.
MOMS Group Most Friday morning, mothers (and fathers or caregivers too!) and their small children are invited to participate in MOMS Group. This is a gathering for conversation, friendship, support and coffee all while playing with our young children. Newborns nap or play while older preschoolers can work on a craft project and play with mom and new friends from the parish. We generally meet on Fridays from 10am-11:30am in the Convent Dining room, and in the summer we meet at various parks throughout West Seattle. Watch your bulletin for a current schedule.
Parish Events
Parish Integration Parish Library
Parish Nursery During the Sunday 9:30am Mass, Family Life runs a Nursery for small children in the Convent basement. This allows parents the opportunity to attend and be a full participant in Mass, without being distracted by the needs of their little ones. And the kids have fun playing with the toys and making new friends. There are generally two to three volunteers staffing the nursery, and a donation of $1.50 per child or $3.00 per family is suggested to help defray costs. If you have any questions about the nursery or are interested in volunteering your time, please contact the Parish Office.
Parish Picnic & Fun Run Come down to Lincoln Park and enjoy some good company, food and fun! The picnic and fun run are held annually to allow our parish community to come together for some fun, food and healthy activities. It takes place after school gets out in June and is an opportunity for everyone to take a collective deep breath and welcome the summer. We have a mix of fun children's games such as three-legged races and gunny sack races. We also offer fun for the older ages with golf putting and pitching contests, bingo and a pie baking contest. We offer child care and a short fun run for all interested. We typically sell a good mix of food including barbequed hot dogs, hamburgers pizza, watermelon, etc. There will be plenty of raffle prizes given out as part of the fun. This is not a fund raising event but we do want to cover our expenses. (Any proceeds will go toward the Father Mallahan Endowment Fund.) As a result we are looking for corporate and individual sponsorships that will be advertised on our banners. We welcome all volunteers, as we begin to prepare for this fun event. Contact Jeff if you would be interested in volunteering or have questions.
Senior Outreach Senior Outreach provides events and opportunities for fellowship with our seniors, including Senior Continental Breakfast and “Honorary Grandparents” for Holy Rosary School’s annual Grandparent & Student Luncheon. We plan Senior Suppers. We also provide “Care Visits” to those who need help shopping or with transportation. Volunteers needed.
WestFest Imagine a sunny Fall weekend in September that brings together family and friends from Holy Rosary Parish, an event put on by the school and the Parish that’s safe and tons of fun for all ages. You’ll find rides, kids games, an entertainment stage, specialty food booths, BINGO, a used book sale, a raffle, an arts & crafts fair, and much more right here in the Holy Rosary School grounds.
WestFest has
become our community’s Fall Family Festival. In it, we celebrate the culmination
of a summer well spent as well as the beginning of an exciting new school year!
Events for this year: Best of all, WestFest is community. It is a Festival run purely by volunteers from our Parish. It embodies everything that our community is all about. We show our children what can be accomplished by working together. Without the sheer dedication and hard work of parishioners, parents, children, friends and family, there can be no WestFest! As a West Seattle tradition, WestFest can’t happen without involved parents, teachers, and parishioners! Please consider helping by working a shift or two—it’s a lot of fun and a great way to meet neighbors and friends. This year’s WestFest Chairs will work with you to find just the right volunteer opportunity. Above all, we hope you’ll spend time at WestFest this Fall—you won’t want to miss it! If you have any questions about WestFest, please contact:
