The Sacrament of Confirmation is an important outpouring of the Holy Spirit, completing Christian Initiation, and strengthening Catholics to become true witnesses of Jesus Christ in their lives.
Confirmation can be received between the age of 7 and 16 at the decision of the local bishop. In the recent past here in the Archdiocese of Seattle, Confirmation was normally offered to teens at age 16 and older. As Bishop Mueggenborg explains in his article, this has led to some misunderstandings about the sacrament of Confirmation. Now, to emphasize God’s action in Confirmation, and to help younger Catholics take full advantage of the gifts of the Holy Spirit which deepen their life in God, the Archdiocese of Seattle is transitioning to a younger age of Confirmation. We now offer Confirmation to middle school and high school students in grades 7 through 12.
Holy Rosary will continue to offer Confirmation preparation for adults. As the normal age moves younger, we will welcome older teens into an age-appropriate program to meet their needs.
If you are in middle school or high school (grades 7 - 12), please visit our Youth Confirmation page. If you are older than age 18, please visit our Adult Confirmation page.
